Business Challenge National Finals

Belgrade, 26-27 February 2015

The idea of an application that helps drivers find a parking space using street sensors was awarded first place at the National Finals of the Business Challenge Competition held in Belgrade on February 26-27. The winning team included students from Prokuplje, Gornji Milanovac, Leskovac, and Belgrade, who competed against 60 of their peers from 50 high schools across Serbia. On the first day of the competition, students were challenged to create an innovative and advanced service or product that would improve the everyday life of Belgrade citizens.  They presented their business ideas to the jury on the second day, and the winners were announced at the award ceremony. 

Business volunteers from JCI Serbia, Faculty of Economics, Telekom Srbija, Saga, Impact Hub Belgrade, Faculty of Economics, finance and administration and JA Serbia Alumni Club helped the student teams in business plan development and in creating presentations.

Teams presented their work in front of the jury consisted of: Miroslava Tesin Popovic (CSR Manager at Telekom Srbija), Aleksandar Gracanac (Secretary of SME Sector at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce), Milana Petkovic (HR manager at SAGA Company), Marko Velbl (Corporate Communications Advisor in BASF company) and Vladimir Djordjevic (journalist at TV B92).

For the past six years, Junior Achievement Serbia (JAS) has organized Business Challenge competitions to motivate successful future entrepreneurs in towns across Serbia.  This year, the winning teams from regional competitions held in Leskovac, Cacak, Novi Sad, and Belgrade continued to the National Finals and twenty students will compete at the Western Balkans Business Challenge in Podgorica, Montenegro in April, together with the students from the former Yugoslav Republics - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro.

The competition was financialy supported by the American Agency for International Development, Telekom Srbija, SAGA and BASF.
