November 2011

This year, Junior Achievement in Serbia and the British Council have implemented a new contest for high school students on the topic of social entrepreneurship, under the name "The Best of the Best". During November one-day training seminars in social entrepreneurship for students and teachers were held in 5 cities in Serbia. 115 students and 26 teachers took part in these trainings:

  • Futog - 22 students and 4 teachers (Futog, Novi Sad, Backa Topola)
  • Kraljevo - 27 students and 7 teachers (Kraljevo and Trstenik)
  • Novi Pazar - 23 students and 4 teachers (Novi Pazar)
  • Nis - 14 students and 3 teachers (Nis, Leskovac and Prokuplje)
  • Belgrade - 29 students and 8 teachers (students from several Belgrade municipalities)

Students who have received this training will participate in a competition, for the application of which they will develop a business plan and a power point presentation on the topic of social entrepreneurship. Their task will be to provide good examples from this field from Great Britain via Internet and to use and apply some of these ideas in Serbia, i.e. in their municipalities.

Great Britain is a country with long tradition in social entrepreneurship and is, therefore, a good role model for countries where this form of entrepreneurship is at its early beginnings.

In March 2012, teams with the best ideas will compete in finals for prestigious awards.
