- Open -

This year, for the second time Junior Achievement in Serbia has provided participation of students from Serbia at a big World contest in making business deccissions through Internet. The contest ''Hewlett Packard Global Business Challenge'' is organized each year, sponsored by international company Hewlett Packard.

Total of 26 teams coming from 10 municipalities in Serbia is registered for the contest. Having in mind that JA progarm is being implemented in South East Serbia (through donations of CHF) and in towns of Kikinda and Zrenjanin (through donations of Kikinda and Zrenjanin Municipalities), majority of the participating teams come from these regions.

According to up to date results JAS proudly announces that the total of 13 teams from Serbia have advanced into the second round of the contest.

In overall placement Serbia is ranked 11th in the World (according to number of teams that have advanced to the second round). Having in mind the size of competitor states and number of teams registered from these countries we could eagerly conclude that our high school students have made quite a success.

MESE World contest 2003. g. (HPGBC 2003)
-Finished-

Serbian teams on the cover page of electronic newsletter which was sent out to more then 40 countries of the World

At the beginning of 2003, JAS has been given the opportunity to provide participation of 10 teams from Serbia in one of the major international competitions for high school students - Hewlett Packard Global Business Challenge. The interest among students and professors for this event was much higher then the granted number, so JAS strived to provide participation of much huger number of students – there was a total of 41 teams competing from Serbia. These teams came from 10 different towns.

The teams were provided with basic training at a preparatory workshop which was organized in January 2003 in the premises of European Movement in Serbia. During the workshop students and their teachers got acquainted with basic idea on making business decisions and on the contest procedures. Having in mind lack of experience, Serbian teams have had relatively good results (three teams in second round), but what was much more important, JAS has succeeded to considerably raise awareness of Junior Achievement among High School youth in several towns of Serbia and prepare them for taking part in other JA programs as well.

Participation of students from Serbia was very well accepted in international JA community - Serbian teams were presented on a front page of MESE Internet Journal
(electronic newsletter spread out to more then 40 countries in the World). Besides, a high school Senior, Nenad Ristic from Kikinda, who took part in this competition and was very active in promoting JA programs among colleagues in his high school has got a chance to take part at a conference of young leaders in Chicago (see GTI Conference).

JAS would like to point out the support of local authorities without which the participation of such big number of teams would not have been possible. The local Governments from various Municipalities have provided necessary fiancial means for participation of teams from their community (Kikinda, Subotica, Zrenjanin, Smederevska Palanka, Valjevo, Šabac, Loznica, etc..)
